Sentinel-1 Backscatter Assimilation Using Support Vector Regression or the Water Cloud Model at European Soil Moisture Sites

نویسندگان

چکیده

Sentinel-1 backscatter observations were assimilated into the Global Land Evaporation Amsterdam Model (GLEAM) using an ensemble Kalman filter. As a forward operator, which is required to simulate from soil moisture and leaf area index (LAI), we evaluated both traditional water cloud model (WCM) support vector regression (SVR). With SVR, closer fit between simulations was achieved. The impact on correlation modeled in situ measurements similar when assimilating Sentinel data WCM ( $\Delta R = +0.037$ ) or SVR +0.025$ ).

Support Vector Regression for Retrieval of Soil Moisture Using Bistatic Scatterometer Data at X-Band

An approach was evaluated for the retrieval of soil moisture of bare soil surface using bistatic scatterometer data in the angular range of 200 to 700 at VVand HHpolarization. The microwave data was acquired by specially designed X-band (10 GHz) bistatic scatterometer. The linear regression analysis was done between scattering coefficients and soil moisture content to select the suitable incide...

Volumetric soil moisture estimation using Sentinel 1 and 2 satellite images

Surface soil moisture is an important variable that plays a crucial role in the management of water and soil resources. Estimating this parameter is one of the important applications of remote sensing. One of the remote sensing techniques for precise estimation of this parameter is data-driven models. In this study, volumetric soil moisture content was estimated using data-driven models, suppor...

Soil moisture estimation by using active microwave measurements and support vector regression (SVR)

In this study the capabilities of an empirical regression approach for retrieving land surface soil moisture were investigated, by combining time series of ASCAT observations and in-situ data. The Support Vector Regression (SVR) is a novel technique that is utilized for establishing a direct relationship between remote sensing observations and the geophysical parameter of interest. ASCAT series...

Setting Up a Sentinel 1 Based Soil Moisture - Data Assimilation System for Flash Flood Risk Mitigation

The objective of this research was to evaluate the potentialities of an advanced SM-DA system based on the assimilation of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observations derived from Sentinel 1 (S1) acquisitions. A time-continuous, spatially-distributed, physically-based hydrological model was used: Continuum (Silvestro et al., 2013). The latter is currently exploited for civil protection activiti...

Re-thinking Sensitivity of Model Parameter Values in Soil Moisture Assimilation Using the Evolutionary Data Assimilation

The sensitivity of land surface model parameters is usually examined for one parameter at a time in response to changes in observation data and/or the model estimated output. This parameter independence approach assumes that there are limited interactions between model parameters a precondition which is highly unlikely for land surface models. Additionally, the model parameter values are widely...
